Twenty-seven weeks in, your baby is properly on the move and treating mealtimes as a hands-on experiment. Here is what is normal.
Typical day · week 27
- Feeds: 4 to 6 milk feeds plus 1 to 2 small solid meals
- Sleep: About 14 hours across day and night
- Naps: 2 to 3 naps, wake windows of 2 to 3 hours
- Diapers: Wet stays steady; stools change with solids
Feeding
Solids are now as much social and tactile play as nutrition: your baby grabs the spoon, smears, throws and inspects food before maybe eating some, all of which is appropriate. Offer a cup of water at every meal as milk intake gradually eases, and keep milk (breast or formula) as the main nutrition. Let the mess happen; the self-exploration is the point.
Sleep
Night feeds may fall away naturally as solids increase and overnight sleep consolidates, though this varies hugely. For many babies, hunger is no longer the main driver of night waking at this age.
Diapers
Stool reflects the more varied diet. Steady output and comfort are the markers.
Growth
Mobility is developing fast, by rolling, commando-crawling on the tummy, pushing backward, or lifting onto all fours, and every route is valid. Babbling is now clearly intentional, different sounds to get your attention, when happy, and when frustrated.
This week's leap
Genuine, purposeful communication through babble and gesture. Do a thorough home-safety check now: stair gates top and bottom, heavy furniture secured to the wall, cleaning products and medicines locked away, and a clear floor. Get down and play at their level every day.
From three months, a fever of 101.3°F (38.5°C) or above warrants assessment, and colds, ear infections and tummy bugs are common once babies are more social. Significant blood in the stool or bloody mucus needs prompt review. Persistently stressful mealtimes are far easier to help early than late. A significant head injury, loss of consciousness, seizure or breathing difficulty is urgent. None of this is medical advice; every baby is different, and your midwife, health visitor or doctor is the person to ask about your own child.
The calm way to follow all of this is to log it in one tap as it happens, then read the pattern over a few days rather than carrying it in your head. Little Bean shows this same week-by-week guidance inside the app, beside your own baby's log.
Quick answers: 27 weeks
How often should a 27-week-old eat?
Most babies this age take 4 to 6 milk feeds plus 1 to 2 small solid meals. Feed on demand rather than by the clock; steady weight gain and enough wet diapers are the real signs intake is fine.
How much sleep does a 27-week-old need?
Roughly about 14 hours across day and night. 2 to 3 naps, wake windows of 2 to 3 hours. The range is wide, so treat these as averages rather than targets.
What are typical wake windows at 27 weeks?
2 to 3 naps, wake windows of 2 to 3 hours. An overtired baby fights sleep harder, so watch the clock and the tired signs together.
